Sigma News - Jan ‘21

To my Brothers of Oklahoma State Sigma Nu,

This has been a crazy year…one we won’t soon forget. I am very excited for this upcoming year and where our House is headed. Due to COVID-19 student life was very different, but Sigma Nu set themselves apart having the fewest cases in Greek life. This was all due to the guidelines we had in place and the hard work of Carson Iven, who took the role of COVID chair for the year. Due to the lack of activity this past semester, we as a house have tried to devote our time in a more productive manner. This past fall we partnered with Habitat for Humanity in Stillwater and had required hours for all of our in-house members. This was an amazing opportunity for us to reach out and help our community that serves us so much in Stillwater.

We have made a lot of changes in the last few years and these changes have helped us to be better in a lot of different ways. One of the biggest changes has been the new Candidate Program. This new program has helped us develop our new incoming class into ethical leaders with a major focus on school and the LEAD program. In the past we have gotten in trouble for some of the things that have gone on during pledge-ship and these changes are a major turning point for our future here at Oklahoma State. This past year we had all 42 of our candidates enter the new program and all 42 of them made it through, with the exception of 2 who did not make the initiation scholarship requirement. These two will be given a second chance to average a 2.5 GPA to get initiated next fall.

This past year we celebrated our 100-year anniversary as a chapter and that is something that few chapters have attained. I hope that we can continue to be a top house at OSU and strive for the next big milestone for Epsilon Epsilon. After being put on Social Probation last Fall, we made diligent efforts to stay focused on our action plan and turned everything in ahead of schedule. This made a great impression with the school and help us to appeal successfully for an early end of social probation. As of January 1st, we were released from social probation. This was a major deal for us and a huge thanks goes to the last EC, Evan Jordan, who helped guide us in the right direction and get us to the point where we could have a successful appeal.

We are also very excited for the future of our new house. The brotherhood will be moving into alternate housing during the construction phase. The active chapter is eager for this next big phase and taking the next step toward becoming a better Fraternity. This new house will be a stepping stone for our Chapter which will allow us to have more active members (upper classmen) in the house and extend our influence on campus. We ask for every brother to support this vision and make a pledge (if you have not done so already) to the Centennial Campaign now to make this happen!

Excellence is Expected!

Fraternally,

Eminent Commander, Chris Ritchie (EE 2640)

CALLING ALL BROTHERS…SEND IN YOUR PICTURES!!

Unless you are fine seeing lots of pictures from the pledge classes of 1974, 1976, and 1979 with a few of recent years of collegiates, we really NEED YOUR HELP!!  Please SEND IN YOUR PICTURES & VIDEOS (high-res quality please) from your college fraternity days and gatherings since then to BY 1/31/21 to:  SigmaNuEEmemories@gmail.com

These will be edited into a forthcoming Brotherhood video.  They will also be put on our new website due out shortly. Help make this a true snapshot of all pledge classes!

CENTENNIAL CAMPAIGN UPDATE

We continue to progress toward our fundraising goal (at $4MM, but need at least $7MM)! We are having lots of chatter between pledge class captains and their pledge brothers to join our momentum and challenge/ whip other nearby pledge classes. Several pledge classes are closing in on or hit 100% participation. We have pledges from over 350 alumni to-date with the goal to reach 700 commitments by February 28th.  EVERY BROTHER CAN and should DO SOMETHING!  Join and watch our progress at the campaign website: https://epsilon-epsilon.squarespace.com/100
