Sigma News - Nov ‘20

Much has happened in the last month and we wanted to get an update out before Thanksgiving.  Epsilon Epsilon notched its 100th year of brotherhood on November 13th!.   On November 13, 1920, the first 34 brothers of Epsilon Epsilon were initiated.  Additionally, the chapter has had the first Fall alumni golf tourney, the annual election of new chapter officers, and completion of the newly-designed candidate program by ALL 42 candidates.  Now all collegiates are laser-focused on academics and finishing the year strong.  A full list of the new officers will be sent out by the active chapter.

ANNUAL RUSH GOLF TOURNEY – 10/2/20

The first Fall alumni golf tourney was a great success raising $12k with some awesome Fall weather, brotherhood (over 80 alumni), and BBQ.  Many thanks to the Pledge Class of 1964 for grilling the incredible grub along with Brandon Parduhn, Chase Snodgrass, and the actives for organizing the event!

CENTENNIAL CAMPAIGN UPDATE

Efforts to reach out to each pledge class continue to spur participation by every brother.  We have pledges from over 400 brothers which puts us at 20% of living brothers participating.  But we can and must do better (our goal is 100%).  Currently, the pledge classes of 2010 (93%), 2011 (84%), 1977 (71%), 2016 (71%), and 1979 (62%) are the top 5 as to participation, but others are gaining.  An attachment is provided that shows the participation level for each pledge class and the brothers participating by class.  FYI, pledge class years are indicated as year of initiation.

As of 11/20/20, we were at $4.3 million in pledges with several challenge opportunities being pursued to get us down the road significantly.  EVERYONE can do SOMETHING!  We CAN and WILL get this DONE, but we NEED EVERYONE’S SUPPORT!  Please send in your pledge form by 12/7/20.

SNAKE SKINS

This month, we hear from Phil Nelson (EE 1475, pledge class of 1979) sharing his thoughts about his days in college at the Sigma Nu house.

-What does Sigma Nu mean to you?

In addition to a lifetime of friendships and connections to people from all over the United States and beyond, Sigma Nu means honorable characteristics such as integrity, honesty, manners and many other qualities instilled in me as a Sigma Nu and that I instantly associate with others who are or were Sigma Nu’s.

-What are some of your most memorable moments while you were in the House?

Who can forget line-ups, house cleanings, Frontier Ball, pledge sneaks, etc…, but as far as impactful moments, I’d just have to say the individual relationships established with other Sigma Nu’s during my time there and over the many years since college.

-Why did you contribute to the House project?

I contributed to the house project because I benefited greatly from my experience as a Sigma Nu and continue to do so years later. Both of my boys (Kramer & Cody) had the honor and privilege of being Sigma Nu’s at Oklahoma State and I know the experience benefited them and continues to do so. I hope that one day my grandchildren have the same experience. I have a lot of pride in Sigma Nu and the house and I wanted to contribute to help us to continue to attract the best and brightest.
