70th Grand Chapter Recap & Summer Update
Every biennium, Sigma Nu Headquarters hosts Grand Chapter, an opportunity for collegian representatives and alumni to come together in a large convention setting to discuss legislation and vote on amending the Law of Sigma Nu Fraternity.
Grand Chapter also features many awards given out to distinguished alumni and active chapters across the country, and Epsilon Epsilon was recognized many times at the entire event. The collegian brothers representing Epsilon Epsilon this summer in Ft. Lauderdale for Grand Chapter were (from left to right), Maddox Trent (EE 2786), Blake Benn (EE 2773), Dare Lovett (EE 2726) and Jackson Young (EE 2776). Grand Chapter was overall a great learning experience to see how the Sigma Nu National chapter works together to make decisions, and we are grateful for the opportunity to represent the chapter in Florida.
The Epsilon Epsilon Chapter was awarded its 13th Rock Chapter Award at the 70th Grand Chapter which is the most of any chapter in the country. The award was given out to 21 collegiate chapters this year, making EE one of the top Sigma Nu chapters in the country. The award covers the success of an overall chapter during the biennium between each Grand Chapter and is awarded every 2 years. Rock Chapter highlights areas of philanthropy, campus involvement, academics and GPA, chapter governance and overall brotherhood. Epsilon Epsilon is proud to bring home its 13th and nationwide leading Rock Chapter and are proud of the brothers who contributed to its possibility.
ALUMNUS OF THE BIENNIUM /
NIC ALUMNUS AWARD OF DISTINCTION
One of the most prestigious awards given out to alumni from Sigma Nu HQ at Grand Chapter is Alumnus of the Biennium. This award encompasses the most involved and influential alumni of the last biennium, and one of our own, Stan Bugh (EE 1458) was the recipient of this award. Brother Bugh also received the North American Interfraternity Conference Alumnus Award of Distinction for the 2023 year by being the most outstanding alumni in competition with the entire Greek community. Congratulations to Brother Bugh on all of his awards and distinctions for the year, and thank you Stan for your impact on making the Epsilon Epsilon chapter the best it can be.
MADDOX HONOR LECTURE PANEL
The Maddox Honor Lecture Panel made history for Epsilon Epsilon and the National Fraternity, featuring 4 members of the Sigma Nu Hall of Fame that are all graduates of Oklahoma State University. This group of alumni from OSU was asked by now former Regent Tim Huffmyer (Michigan State) questions about their individual careers in business, their beginnings in Sigma Nu, and advice to the entire Grand Chapter about success moving forward. The panel featured 5 seats, newest Sigma Nu Hall of Fame inductee Carl Thoma (EE 1069), Charlie Eitel (EE 1096), Burns Hargis (EE 992), Don Humphreys (EE 1063) and an empty seat for Tom Coburn (EE 1065) who entered the Chapter Eternal in 2020. The panel offered great insight into the success of these 4 Hall of Fame members all from Epsilon Epsilon, and the chapter was proud to be represented on such a high level at Grand Chapter. Thank you to the 4 alumni who gave their time to be a part of such an important panel.
BROTHER CARL THOMA HALL OF FAME INDUCTION
Another prominent event for Epsilon Epsilon occurred at Grand Chapter when Brother Carl Thoma (EE 1069) was the 82nd member inducted into the Sigma Nu Hall of Fame. Brother Thoma is the 6th Epsilon Epsilon brother to be inducted into the Hall of Fame, and it is based on Brother Thoma's career success and dedication to the virtues of Sigma Nu throughout his life. Brother Thoma has contributed very generously to the construction of our new chapter house, given financially to Oklahoma State University, and has represented Epsilon Epsilon to the highest degree in the business world with his private equity firm he founded, Thoma Bravo. Oklahoma State Sigma Nu is proud to congratulate and recognize Brother Thoma for one of the highest awards a Sigma Nu brother can achieve, and the chapter also thanks him for his dedication to the principles of Sigma Nu over the course of his career.
